Our Story

It all started in the fall of 2002 when Martin Claure moved from Miami, FL with his wife Carmen to pursue an MBA at Northwestern University. After spending a full two weeks looking for housing, they still ended up far away from school and paying way too much.

After researching the marketplace and talking to his peers, Martin determined that there was a true need for a service that focused on the housing needs of the Northwestern MBA community. Colfax started out as a part time business called MBA Properties – a home finding service for Northwestern MBA students.

In less than one year of operations, MBA Properties helped over two thirds of the incoming Kellogg class rent and purchase their new home. Rather than pursue the more traditional corporate, consulting or banking track, Martin decided grow the MBA Properties concept after he graduated.

Since 2002, Colfax has opened offices in Boston, Chicago, Evanston, Miami and New York and expanded its services to other MBA, medical, law and graduate schools. Furthermore, the company has aligned itself with major recruiters in these cities and is helping their busy, highly mobile, emerging professionals with their ever-changing real estate needs. Colfax also launched Residential Brokerage and Investments divisions to continue serving the needs of the company’s growing client base.

Our plan is to continue expanding aggressively to other education and professional markets in the US.
